My research falls largely within metaphysics, and deals principally with the metaphysics of action, causation, and abstracta. I am also interested in the nature of explanation, and the relationship between different kinds, or “levels”, of explanation, as well as phenomenological and epistemological issues pertaining to the philosophy of mind and action.
I studied at University College London, completing a masters dissertation on causation by composite objects, and then working on a doctoral dissertation on the relationship between action and causation. I argue here that while causation by human agents is possible, the nature of human action cannot be fully accounted for in terms of causation by the agent, once we consider the full range of actions that humans are capable of.
